Review of The Forbidden Trilogy by Kimberly Kinrade

Synopsis from book:

Those inside are special, gifted with unique abilities, abilities that make them dangerous to the outside world. Since childhood, they’re trained to control their powers, to show restraint, and to defend themselves. For years they practice, honing their gifts for one purpose: to be rented out to the highest bidder as a spy, to be used as a weapon against others.
Sam never questions her role at the secret organization dubbed Rent-A-Kid.
Until she meets Drake.
She reads minds. He controls minds. Together, they might get out alive.

My Review:

The Forbidden Trilogy by Kimberly Kinrade is an amazing story of a group of kids, rented out for their abilities to the highest bidder. The world building, the characters and the plot line are flushed out with a depth that will rock your world.
Groomed to be spies, these kids are deceived by those in authority, the very ones they’ve been taught to trust. Believing they are building a nest egg with their pay, to be freed upon the world to live out their lives the way they want on their eighteenth birthday, Sam, the main gifted girl in book 1, discovers the deception and escapes. Unfortunately, it only brings a world of pain upon her and the other main character in book one, Drake, the boy she falls in love with. Told with alternating points of view only makes this story more realistic, it brings a unique quality to the table. The characters are complex and each twist and turn in the plot will catch you unaware, make you gasp and quickly turn to the next page, desperate for more.
A few of the kids in book 1 make it to main character status in book 2. Learning more about them, while continuing the story line from book 1 with Sam and Drake helps to continue building the world they live in, the one we want to continue to read about. Lucy and Luke, best friends to Sam, grow more complex in the second book and we are introduced to even more characters. More of the plot is meted out in dollops that have you begging for more.
The 3rd book was the perfect ending to this trilogy. It wrapped everything up after taking you on an emotional roller coaster ride you never expected. This trilogy has everything you could want: suspense, action, romance and paranormal. It’s enough to make your head spin, and it does, in a good way. Kimberly shows you the best and the worst of human kind, with or without powers. She digs in deep and isn’t afraid to go where others balk. I’ll be looking for more from this author without a doubt.
The Special Edition bonus' are just that...BONUS! I loved it. The Discussion Guide really makes you think and who doesn't love that? I can't say enough about the Q & A with Kimberly, it just rocked! The other bonus' will remain a mystery until you buy the book, I can't give everything away! *Grin*
